Patent on Growth of Carbon Nanotubes Issued

United States Patent 7,763,230 was issued on July 27, 2010. The patent, "Process and Apparatus Utilizing Mixed Ligand Organometallic Catalysts for In Situ Growth of High Purity, Low Defect Density Carbon Nanotubes," includes Aloysius F. Hepp and Jerry D. Harris as inventors and is assigned to Nanotech Innovations (NI), LLC, a company created to commercialize this process.

NI, LLC sells the equipment to produce nanotubes. The work was originally funded by the Nanotechnology program at NASA GRC. This activity has been captured in a recently-released NASA Success story.
