Dr. Mary V. Zeller

Mary V. ZellerDr. Mary V. Zeller, Ph.D., is Deputy Division Chief of the Communications, Instrumentation and Controls Division at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Zeller earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, M.S from John Carroll University and B.S. from Notre Dame College of Ohio. Her industrial career includes several years in the molecular spectroscopy group at Sohio Research (now BP/Amoco) and nine years with Perkin-Elmer Corporation, where her various positions included senior staff scientist and senior product manager for surface analysis instrumentation.

Before joining NASA, she spent several years as the Director of the Surface Science Facility at the University of Notre Dame. Her funded research activities were in the areas of corrosion, adhesion, conducting polymers and thin film metallization for high temperature microelectronics. In 1988, she joined NASA to investigate thin film sensors for aeronautics and space applications. At NASA, she has held various positions including Branch Chief for Tribology and Surface Science, Project Manager for the Glennan Microsystems Initiative, Associate Project Manager and Center Point of Contact for Nanotechnology, and Division Chief of the Instrumentation and Controls Division.

Dr. Zeller has been active in several technical societies. While at the University of Notre Dame, she held several offices in the Notre Dame Sigma Xi society including Chair Elect. She also presented numerous talks for the Society of Applied Spectroscopy during her career. Since returning to Cleveland, in addition to being involved in the Ohio Chapter of the American Vacuum Society, she has been most active in the Cleveland Section of American Chemical Society, and has held numerous volunteer and elected positions including chair of the public relations committee, co-chair of the publicity committee for a Central Regional Meeting, Section Chair, Councilor and currently Alternate Councilor.
